Level 1 - Junior Authors Creative Writing Course
ages 10-17
ONLINE for Home Learners (12 students max)
This course is a prerequisite for all Level 2 Courses

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Aspiring young writers explore and practice the art and craft of creative writing. During the course, students will practice storytelling, short story writing, writing for the stage, and poetry as well as sharpen their editing skills and learn just what it takes to get published. In each class, students play games that strengthen their core writing skills, do creativity exercises, and write. In the face-to-face course, we wrap up with an opportunity for students to read their work to an appreciative audience of family and friends. This course is ideal for students who love writing and dream of being published some day, but also for those who are struggling to see the fun side of writing. ESL and special needs students are always welcome. 8 classes / 12 hours of instruction.

Location: Laura's virtual classroom on WizIQ (note students should have high speed Internet access, speakers or a headset and a microphone for optional voice communication). Laura teaches this class live.

Level 2 Course - The Short Story: From Idea to Publication
ages 10-17
Online for Home Learners (8 students max)

October 5 - November 30

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Take your writing and storytelling skills to the next level in this intensive short story course. Over an intensive eight weeks we will journey step by step through the writing process from idea to editing. By the last session each participant will have an original, polished short story of no more than 1,500 words that is properly formatted and ready to submit to a magazine. Homework will be assigned each week and, as a bonus, Laura will be available for one-on-one help outside of class time. Please note this course is intended for emerging writers between the ages of 10 and 17 who are serious about seeing their work in print. 9 classes / 13.5 hours of instruction plus one-on-one mentoring. Prerequisite: Level 1 or permission of the instructor.

Location: Laura's virtual classroom on WizIQ (note students should have high speed Internet access, speakers or a headset and a microphone for optional voice communication). Laura teaches this course live.

Registration and Payment: Laura hosts this class privately. She will email an invoice upon registration. To register please email Laura with your student's name, age and your billing information (third party billling to a home learning organization is available) to juniorauthor@agentstory.net. Payment by cheque is preferred. There is a $3.00 charge for credit card payments made through PayPal.
