COURSE DESCRIPTION: Aspiring young writers explore and practice the art and craft of creative writing. During the course, students will practice storytelling, short story writing, writing for the stage, and poetry as well as sharpen their editing skills and learn just what it takes to get published. In each class, students play games that strengthen their core writing skills, do creativity exercises, and write. In the face-to-face course, we wrap up with an opportunity for students to read their work to an appreciative audience of family and friends. This course is ideal for students who love writing and dream of being published some day, but also for those who are struggling to see the fun side of writing. ESL and special needs students are always welcome. 8 classes / 12 hours of instruction.

I had a really great time and learned a lot! Laura's a great teacher and I look forward to doing more classes with her!

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Take your writing and storytelling skills to the next level in this intensive short story course. Over an intensive eight weeks we will journey step by step through the writing process from idea to editing. By the last session each participant will have an original, polished short story of no more than 1,500 words that is properly formatted and ready to submit to a magazine. Homework will be assigned each week and, as a bonus, Laura will be available for one-on-one help outside of class time. Please note this course is intended for emerging writers between the ages of 10 and 17 who are serious about seeing their work in print. 8 classes / 12 hours of instruction plus one-on-one mentoring in a 60-minute private class. Prerequisite: Level 1 or permission of the instructor.

Thank you so much for helping me along the road to publication! My favorite parts of your class were: writing my story and how you use slides that capture my attention. It was almost better than in a live class, because in a live class, when you read, everyone is looking at you, but in the online class, no one can see you, so it is way less embarrassing. I love the way your give feedback - not just what to fix, but also kind words of encouragement. You're the best creative writing teacher ever!!
